Tottenham Hotspur continue the process of loaning out a number of their youngsters as the transfer window comes to a close. Early today we told you that John Bostock had officially joined Sheffield Wednesday on loan, now we can also tell you that midfielder Tom Carroll will be joining Championship side Derby County on loan.

The 19 year-old English midfielder had a number of good displays for Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League. Carroll also enjoyed a good loan spell with Leyton Orient in League One last season. Carroll now makes the jump to the Championship in order to continue his development.

I've not seen Derby play much this season, aside from their recent FA Cup match against Stoke City. Carroll will be competing for playing time in central midfielder with Craig Bryson and James Bailey. Both have been ever-present for the Rams this season and will not give up their respective places easily. Carroll is a bit more of a creative midfielder than either of those two players so perhaps manager Nigel Clough will alter his formation to include all three.

More than likely Carroll will be an occasional starter and a frequent substitute. It will certainly be a way for him to get more games at a higher level of competition than he would have playing friendlies for the Spurs XI.
