According to reports slowly making their way out of the Netherlands over the past few days, it appears that Tottenham Academy star William Ekong has been permitted to train with RKC Waalwijk, and apparently has been included in the matchday squad for an upcoming game. It is unclear to me as yet whether this move is one that will precipitate a full-time switch to the Dutch club.
Based on the information I've seen to date about Ekong, I'd be somewhat surprised if the youngster was about to be released by Spurs. The commanding centre-half featured prominently in a number of U18 games last season and signed a new deal with the club as recently as last April. Ekong himself has also gone on record as stating he was happy with life at Tottenham and that the youth coaches had indicated he might soon be ready for a Football League loan. It's never nice to see well-regarded youth players leave, so updates on whether Ekong really is set to depart the club will follow as I receive them.
