Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Tom Huddlestone has been recalled to the England National Team. Huddlestone replaces Liverpool's Jonjo Shelvey in Wednesday's friendly against Sweden.
The call-up marks a huge achievement for Huddlestone, who has been absent from the national side for over two years. It has a period marked by a series of ankle ligament injuries that caused the midfielder to miss nearly all of last season. However, injuries to the Tottenham midfield have provided the opportunity for Huddlestone to prove his worth. The 25 year-old has responded in a big way, showing marked improvement as he attempts to regain his former quality.
It is impressive to think about how much Huddlestone has been through at such a young-age. A star at Derby beginning at 16, Huddlestone became a key player for Spurs at just 19 years-old, and was one of the most instrumental players in the 2009-10 fourth-place finishing season. If Huddlestone's ankle problems are behind him, then he along with the likes Sandro and Dembele can form a top-notch central midfield squad for years to come.
Congrats to Tom on what he has already achieved in coming back from his injury troubles. Here's hoping that Huddlestone shows well in his England return, and that his once-immense form continues to come back.
