Birmingham Looking Into Rose Loan

Interesting report here out of Sky Sports, which says that Birmingham City boss Chris Hughton has pursued a loan for Danny Rose. After Jean Beausejour and Liam Ridgewell's departure left wing has become an immediate need for a Blues side pushing for promotion. Birmingham City is currently fifth in the Championship, placed in the playoff places and in reach of automatic promotion.

For Tottenham Hotspur, the immediate concern is Danny Rose's development. Benoit Assou-Ekotto and Gareth Bale have been rocks of the Tottenham Hotspur squad, giving little opportunity for playing time for Danny Rose. The absence of Europa League football seems to really hurt Rose, as the knockout stage would have provided an excellent stage for Rose to compete.

However, after Sebastien Bassong and Vedran Corluka's loans, Rose is the only player on the squad with a competence for left back besides BAE and Bale. With Tottenham already thin on fullbacks, Rose provides much needed depth for the backline. And the need for the depth outweighs Rose's development, sadly.

It seems now that the ideal move for Tottenham would have been to bring in a veteran left back (e.g. Paul Robinson) whilst loaning Rose and Bassong out to continue their development. However, in the great game of wages Bassong won, giving the more expensive player the chance to earn playing time as Rose's development stunts. It seems a short-termism mindset may undo Rose's development. He may always be "Danny Rose on his Premier League debut" in our minds, but nothing else.
