Yeah, I admit it. This headline was a classic bait and switch. I wanted people to see it, think I might be talking about Ledley King, click it, then come here and get really mad. It was entirely on purpose. I am a troll. The headline of this post does not refer to Tottenham Hotspur's cartilage free captain, but instead to New Zealand international Ryan Nelsen.
Harry Redknapp said after the FA Cup game against Bolton, in which Nelsen played well and scored a goal, that Spurs had to keep him around.
"I couldn't believe I got him on a free. I felt it was an amazing player to bring to the club, he is a player I have chased for years. I have always thought he was top class, a great pro, a great trainer, a fantastic person.
"He has got a six-month contract. At the end of the season you have got to keep him here next year because he's worth his weight in gold just to have around for other people to look at the way he works, the way he trains, the way he behaves, his attitude."
Based on what I saw from Nelsen for years with D.C. United, Blackburn and the Kiwis, I don't doubt it for a second. Nelsen has always come off as a model professional, and even if he is just the club's fourth or fifth defender, he's a guy that almost certainly has some significant value on the training pitch and in the locker room.
