Sadly, but unsurprisingly, Michael Dawson is facing a lengthy layoff after suffering an injury in Tottenham Hotspur's FA Cup win over Stevenage on Wednesday. The central defender went down early in the match and was taken to the hospital. After the match Harry Redknapp confirmed that Dawson would be out for a while.

"Unfortunately we picked up a couple of nasty injuries tonight. Michael Dawson looks like he has got a really bad injury, which is a massive blow for Michael and everybody.

"Michael has gone to hospital. It was his ankle and his knee. He has a pretty bad injury there. It's long-term, for sure.

"Looking at his injury it would be a miracle to think he is not (out for the season). You never know but it didn't look good at all. It is a big blow for us and for Michael."

Dawson's injury looked awful as soon as it happened. The question was not whether he was seriously hurt (it was obvious that he was), but whether he injured his knee, his ankle, or both. The answer is both. He was stretchered off the pitch and his day was done and now maybe his season is done too.

With Dawson out for a while, Spurs face a serious problem in defense. Ledley King is never a sure bet to be fit and neither is Williams Gallas, leaving Younes Kaboul and Ryan Nelsen as the only two centerbacks on the roster that Spurs can depend on being available. Considering the way that Nelsen played on Wednesday, his fitness may not be much of a boost.
