Tottenham Hotspur are looking at another young South American defender. Maybe this team is going all Udinese on us after all? Ecuador Under-17 international left back Cristian Ramirez is joining Spurs for a 10-day trial. The 17-year-old currently players for Independiente Jose Teran in the top flight of Ecuadorian football, and he has started all nine of his team's games in the Ecuadorian Serie A.
I know that I'm usually good for some info on these guys, but I regret to in form you that I can't tell you a lot about Ramirez. I'm up on guys who have played in the continental competitions, the Brazileirao or the Argentine Primera, but I don't watch the Ecuadorian domestic league. The above-linked ESPN UK article says that he "has been compared to former Brazil left back Roberto Carlos", which is probably hyperbolic, but I assume it means the kid has one hell of a left foot.
If he started in the Under-17 World Cup and he starts every game for his club team at 17, he's certainly worth a look. Rumors have the potential transfer fee at £1.5 million.
