Brendan Rodgers Wants Steven Caulker Next Season, Too

While this hasn't been printed anywhere that I would consider "reliable" (EDIT: The BBC has picked up the story), there's too much smoke for there not to be a fire somewhere. All of Sporting Life, New Ross Standard, Football 365 and Wales Online have more or less the exact same story, so this probably isn't a bunch of completely made up bologna. That story is that Brendan Rodgers is going to ask if he can keep Steven Caulker on loan for another year.

I know everyone isn't going to be completely opposed to this. Caulker will have a place in the team if he returns next season, more likely than not, but he will not be first choice. It would probably be best for his career to get as many games as possible.

However, Tottenham do need cover at central defense. Ledley King, William Gallas and Ryan Nelsen are all old, injury-prone players. Michael Dawson has had more bad luck than anything else, but still hasn't played regularly during the last two years. If Tottenham are going to legitimately fight for all competitions, they will need Caulker.

Therefore, I'm vehemently opposed to loaning him back to Swansea next year. Any dissenting opinion?
