It's that time of year, ladies and gentlemen! The English papers are throwing out random transfer rumors. Their favorite subject right now seems to be [insert striker here] to Tottenham Hotspur. Today's striker de jour is ... Ola Toivonen!
The Daily Mail are 'reporting' that Tottenham are considering a bid for the Swedish international, who is going to be playing for Sweden at Euro 2012. But wait! They have to move fast on the £7m rated forward, or they might miss out, say the Mail. The other teams in the running? Fiorentina, Genoa, and Valencia.
Wait, what? Valencia, who have Roberto Soldado, Aritz Aduriz and Jonas? Fiorentina and Genoa, two big clubs who nearly got relegated? The latter of which is currently involved in a match-fixing scandal? This is an upgrade from PSV Eindhoven, how?
Toivonen has had a couple of very good years for PSV and would probably be a good signing at £7m. I can't imagine his wages would be too high, and he certainly has the physical attributes to play in the Premier League. There's no reason to believe Tottenham are actually sniffing around here, though. The Mail didn't even bother to drop a "sources tell the Daily Mail" or anything like that. This is probably nonsense, but it's May, so we'll post nonsense with the caveat that it's probably nonsense.
