Kyle Walker Signs New Deal With Tottenham

Fresh off claiming the PFA Young Player of the Year award, Tottenham Hotspur right back Kyle Walker has signed a new long-term contract with the club. Walker's previous deal didn't exactly pay him the kind of wages that a first-choice starter for a European-contending team generally makes in the Premier League, and one has to assume that along with an extension, he got a nice raise. Walker is now signed with the club through 2017.

I made jokes about the PFA awards last week because, let's face it, Sergio Aguero is crazy stupid amazing and PFA Awards are dumb, but I don't actually have any bad things to say about Kyle Walker. He's a very solid player for a 21-year-old and a ridiculous athlete who is almost certain to improve as a defender as he plays more. He needs to work on his passing and crossing for sure, but his stellar free kick goal at the weekend indicates that he has the technical quality to do so.

Walker is in contention for the England team at Euro 2012, and Tottenham were probably smart to lock him up to a new contract before he made that team. Who's got the "WAGES" meme handy?
