Tottenham Make AVB Contact

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly made contact with Andre Villas-Boas through a third party about their current managerial vacancy, according to a report at The Guardian. This, of course, means that the club has not directly made contact with AVB, or that they have not done this to the Guardian's knowledge, but that's probably just because they don't have his personal mobile number.

The article claims that Daniel Levy would have considered sacking Redknapp to appoint AVB as the manager even if Tottenham qualified for the Champions League. This is very consistent with some rumblings I've heard through the ITK crowd about Levy and his interest in Villas-Boas.

Rafael Benitez and David Moyes are predictably listed as other potential candidates for the managerial job in the Guardian article, and they even go so far as to say that there's some interest in both on the part of Levy.

In any event, we don't expect an appointment tomorrow, but we probably will hear something about AVB getting an interview sooner rather than later. I guess there was actually something to that shot of him getting on a connecting flight to London at the Manchester airport?

There is, interestingly, no mention of Roberto Martinez in the article. Maybe Dave Whelan knew what he was talking about.

If you missed it, we began a "Tottenham Hotspur Manager Shortlist" series today with David Moyes. We'll continue that series tomorrow with a bunch of other candidates. The other writers are obviously all here on a volunteer basis and will get their stuff up as time permits, but expect posts on Villas-Boas, Roberto Martinez, Luciano Spalletti, Rafael Benitez and Didier Deschamps, among others, shortly.
