Reports from pro-Real Madrid newspaper Marca claim that a transfer has been agreed between the La Liga champions and Tottenham Hotspur for midfielder Luka Modric. The report claims that the transfer fee is €35 million (£28.2 million). Marca claims that, "[José Mourinho] not only sees the Croatian as a playmaker, but also as a midfielder to play alongside Xabi Alonso in games against minor rivals."
Modric, 26, just finished his run in the Euros with Croatia. Speculation has immediately swirled on rumours of a Modric departure, with Real Madrid named the number one candidate (and Tottenham Chairman reluctant to sell Modric to a Premier League side).
It seems unlikely the deal is completed yet, however, as even Marca itself seem to claim the deal being part of Madrid "desires." The journalistic integrity of Marca is hardly unquestioned, but the report seems to confirm even more that a Modric-Real Madrid transfer is in the works. Modric appears to be the number one transfer target for José Mourinho, so it seems more likely than ever that the Croat will be leaving Tottenham Hotspur this summer.
