Is a Redknapp Stay Key to Prevent Exodus?

Let's start off with the good news, as a new round of Rafael van der Vaart quotes are going around. The Dutchman stated that he has no interest in leaving Tottenham Hotspur, despite rumours linking him to a move this summer. In doing so, not only do Spurs have one less worry about a player this offseason, but a strengthened bargaining position if they do decide to sell van der Vaart.

However, what was of more interest perhaps were his quotes given on Harry Redknapp's contract status, something we already started discussing today. While the Tottenham Hotspur support seem to be rather nonplussed on the idea of Redknapp leaving, the players may feel differently.Asked if it was important that Redknapp signed an extension, Van der Vaart said (via Sky Sports):

"Yeah, I think so. He is doing a fantastic job, so I don't see any problems. I think he's going to sign a new contract - I hope so - and I think it's also good for every team when they have a manager who's there for many years. So I hope he stays."

For as much as Tottenham Hotspur supporters may be frustrated with Redknapp, whether it be his tactics or the idea that he has reached his ceiling as a manager, it is important to evaluate what his departure could mean to the current Tottenham players.

The players this is most relevant too seem to be Gareth Bale and Luka Modric. Bale and Redknapp seem to have a great report, and Redknapp's departure could push Bale to seek a transfer. As for Modric, with all the rumours swirling of his departure last summer, Redknapp was able to keep the Croatian motivated and playing at his best for Spurs.

This is not to say that Redknapp leaving would be a bad thing for the club. However, if he does go, the imperative will be on Daniel Levy to keep open lines of communication with the Tottenham players on this move, and perhaps make them feel a part of the process of choosing a new manager. If a manager change is not perceived to be above board, however, we may just see the dominos start falling at Tottenham Hotspur.
