Long-awaited and entirely welcome news out of Spurs Lodge this morning as it was confirmed by the BBC that the club have agreed an undisclosed fee to sign Emmanuel Adebayor, the former Arsenal and Manchester City striker who spent the last season on loan with Tottenham.
New Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas had confirmed the club's interest in the Togolese player in his first interview with the press earlier this week, and it looks as if the same talks that Adebayor claimed were ongoing prior to our new gaffer's arrival have now come to fruition as his tenure is getting underway. All that remains is for the club to agree personal terms with Ade over the course of the weekend, and we will finally have another striker to accompany Jermain Defoe on our books.
This should really be reassuring news for the Spurs faithful who were beginning to get jitters over our slow progress in finding a line leader for this coming season. At 28, Adebayor is at the peak of his powers, with strength, skillfulness, speed and more than reasonable finishing abilities in his locker. Manny was allegedly being sounded out by clubs such as Liverpool during his electric season with us last year, so it's excellent news that we've nailed him down while we held the advantage.
