Luka Modric has been close to sealing a transfer to Real Madrid for a few weeks, according to every website ever. The Daily Mail is reporting that he's still extremely close to making a move to Madrid, with just a few wrinkles left to be ironed out. This, of course, means that Luka Modric is still a Tottenham Hotspur player and still not a Real Madrid player.
I've resigned myself to Modric leaving, as I'm sure most of you have, and I'm very happy that he's chosen to keep his mouth shut during this saga while letting Daniel Levy, Florentino Perez and his agent work everything out in private. I'm surprised that Levy is rumored to be accepting a fee of £30 million, but I'm okay with taking that if he's headed to a team outside of the Premier League.
Apparently, the hang up is in add-ons. Tottenham want up to £5 million in escalators, but Madrid are only willing to add £3 million. This is hardly a big deal and, if the Mail have their information correct (I know, lollerskates), that won't be such a hang-up that the deal won't get done shortly.
I'm just hoping that this can get sorted in time for Andre Villas-Boas to have some transfer funds to play with. If Modric leaves while Emmanuel Adebayor comes in, he'll need one midfielder and one forward of some kind. I'd like to go get them before August 31.
