Tottenham Hotspur have officially announced that South African central defender Bongani Khumalo has joined Greek Super League club PAOK Thessaloniki on a season-long loan. Khumalo, 25, is a South African international who arrived at White Hart Lane in January 2011 for £1.5 million from Supersport United. However, Khumalo has been unable to find playing time at Spurs. The defender had a failed loan at Reading last season that saw him return early.

Tottenham Hotspur supporters will be familiar with PAOK after dueling with the club in the group stage of last year's Europa League. PAOK finished third in last season's Super League and will compete again in the Europa League in this upcoming season.

A loan to a contending side like PAOK will hopefully rebuild Khumalo's form and transfer value. Playing time will also hopefully help earn Khumalo into being first choice for his country again. Tottenham Hotspur do not seem to have Khumalo in their plans, so a successful loan could be key to recouping the £1.5 million originally spent on Bongani.
