Big, big news being reported today from Real Madrid blog Managing Madrid (of our own SB Nation network).According to sources inside the club speaking to Lucas Navarrete, Real Madrid and Tottenham have agreed to two deals for Luka Modric. That's correct, two deals. In one deal, Real Madrid will play straight cash for Luka Modric. In the other, more interesting deal, Modric will be exchanged for both cash and Nuri Sahin. Final say on the deal will come from Mourinho, if he wants to keep Sahin then the former deal will go through, if he does not then Sahin will come to London. This is according to sources inside the club, speaking to Lucas confidentially.
There are two things that are complicating the deal. The first is Andre Villas-Boas interest in Joao Moutinho. Madrid is waiting to see if Tottenham are able to sign the player, if not their thought process is that AVB will become more interested in ensuring that the Sahin swap happens.
The second matter, and the reason that none of this has been announced, is the saga of Kaka. According to the source, no deal will go through until Kaka leaves. If Kaka does not leave, the deal will fall through.
After shipping out Thiago Silva and Zlatan Ibrahimovic , A.C. Milan is interested in acquiring Kaka to quell the fanbase' outrage at the move. However, Real Madrid and A.C. Milan are far from terms in that deal (Madrid wants more money than Milan is willing to pay). At the same time, PSG are also interested in acquiring Kaka as well. The source states that the deals could drag on, but one club making a move could cause a chain reaction of movement that ends with Modric in Madrid and Kaka elsewhere.
This certainly helps to explain why the deal is taking forever to be completed, and I have to say I don't like the idea of having to wait around for Italian and French clubs to get their act together for this to possibly finish. I'm also dismayed that there is a possibility that the deal could fall through completely. Once again we're being pulled back and forth with Modric, after making me peace with the moves and preparing for the man to leave London, in the end he could be staying here another season. This also could complicate our movement in the transfer market, and probably has. I'm assuming the fact that, at the moment, the Modric money is not guaranteed to be coming, it's holding up our dealings with Lloris (the fact we wouldn't pull the trigger for 15 million pounds on a keeper like him made no sense) and our movement for another striker.
