No one was too worked up about the Luka Modric transfer saga until late on Friday. All summer, we've assumed that he'd take off for a club with tons of money outside of the Premier League, and that if no one met Daniel Levy's price, he'd play and get on with it. Apparently, that's not the case. The Guardian is reporting that Modric skipped training today.
Apparently, Modric was due to start training with the team again on Thursday. He showed up to Spurs Lodge, but left early, then didn't show up today. Tottenham Hotspur refused to respond to the Guardian's inquiry about why Modric was not at training.
If you missed it, there's a picture currently circulating around the internet with Modric eating at a London cafe with a man who appears to be Real Madrid president Florentino Perez. According to our friends over at Managing Madrid, the transfer is already all but sorted, but Modric won't be joining Real Madrid until after Kaka seals his departure.
At this point, I don't know what to believe. Who knows whether or not Levy and Perez actually have some deal in place and most of the press are in the dark. Maybe Levy told Modric he doesn't care if he comes to training or not. Maybe Modric thinks he can force a move by refusing to show up to training. If he thinks that, he's ridiculously dense, but he might think that.
I really just want this to be over. I want Kaka to go to A.C. Milan, or the Brasileirao, and then I want Modric to go to Madrid for whatever the hell Levy and Perez can work out. I don't care if it's £25m, £30m or £40m. I really just want to move on with my life.
Sadly, I have the feeling that this is going to drag out for a very long time.
