Finally, Belgian defender Jan Vertonghen has completed his move from Ajax to Tottenham Hotspur, according to the club's official site. This move seems like it's been talked about for months, but to finally have it completed is a relief.

Vertonghen, Ajax's captain and player of the year (to go along with being Eredivisie Player of the Year) joins Tottenham Hotspur off the back of one of his best seasons as a pro. The defender scored 10 times in 37 appearance for his Dutch club. Interest was high in the big Belgian, but Spurs seemed to always be the player's preference.

Vertonghen now joins a deep group of central defenders in the Tottenham squad. First-choice center back Younes Kaboul, youngster Steven Caulker, and veterans Michael Dawson, William Gallas, and (maybe) Ledley King. One would have to imagine that Vertonghen will join Kaboul in the heart of the Spurs defense, but who knows what new manager Andre Villas-Boas' plans are.

It is likely that a pairing of Kaboul and Vertonghen will more effectively allow Villas-Boas to implement his high defensive line, which was so problematic at Chelsea. In addition, Vertonghen is an excellent passer and should aid in the Portugese manager's philosophy of recycling possession.

How does it feel to know Spurs finally got their man? Celebrate away in the comments.
