Guys. Guys. You guys. Guys. GUYS. Football is almost back. Tottenham Hotspur began preseason training today, with Andre Villas-Boas at the helm. Players who participated in competitive international fixtures during this summer were not at training, nor were players who are headed to the Olympics, but there were a handful of players in attendance.
The club posted a gallery of training pictures on their Facebook page, and everyone should be super encouraged by what they see, on most fronts. Tom Huddlestone, Michael Dawson, Younes Kaboul and Jermaine Jenas were all in training as they recover from injuries that kept them out at the end of last season, and in the cases of Huddlestone and Jenas, for the entire season. Gylfi Sigurdsson was also in training, and I'm sure we'll be seeing Jan Vertonghen shortly.
Less encouraging was Jake Livermore's bleached fauxhawk thing. Good god, who told him that was a good idea? Scott Parker needs to give his fellow midfielders some hairstyling tips.
Spurs kick off their preseason with a friendly against Gary Rootbeer and Stevenage on July 18. After that, they head to the United States for a three-game tour featuring matches against LA Galaxy, New York Red Bulls and Liverpool. They come back across the Atlantic and play Watford on August 4, then close out their preseason schedule on August 9 against Valencia.
