There were some grumblings yesterday that Tottenham Hotspur were making a bid for Yann M'Vila, which we thought seemed very plausible but a bit off. Today, media outlets are getting a bit more strong with their wording. L'Equipe is reporting that Rennes have received a bid of €15m for M'Vila, and claim that Rennes are looking to sell him by the end of the transfer window. They also say that Rennes asking price for M'Vila is still €20m.
ESPN repeated the story in English and speculated that Rennes is probably looking to sell because of financial problems at the club. Even though M'Vila is not a like-for-like Luka Modric replacement, the reports that Spurs have agreed on a Modric fee with Real Madrid would become a lot more believable if they did, in fact, bid for M'Vila.
I really don't know how to feel about this. I would prefer that we brought in a better passer and more creative player than M'Vila if Modric is leaving, but he's an extremely high-quality young player with a decent range of passing. If we're going to play a 4-2-3-1 with Gylfi Sigurdsson or Rafael Van der Vaart in the hole, a Sandro-M'Vila double pivot does sound awfully appealing.
We already had a discussion earlier today about whether or not you want M'Vila and Modric's proposed sale price, so I have a different question for the community: Do you believe this? Is this actually happening?
