You know what Tottenham Hotspur really need? Did you guess striker? Because if you did then you're wrong. The answer is another midfielder. Apparently Tottenham Hotspur are after Bologna midfielder Gaston Ramirez. Ramirez has long been rumored as a Liverpool target, but now reports out of Italy are linking the Uruguayan youngster with a move to Tottenham.

According to the player's agent there has been some interest from the Premier League, but at this point there is no agreement in place with any club. The agent, Oscar Betancourt, went on to say, "We just talked to some officials close to the leadership of the club, but nothing more. The only concrete offer is that of Tottenham who came to offer €16m for the player."

I'm not sure why Tottenham Hotspur would bid for Ramirez, a player who plays, essentially, the same role as Rafael van der Vaart and Gylfi Sigurddson. Tottenham definitely don't need Ramirez and unlike other rumored targets (like Yann M'Villa) he's not, at this point in his career, an elite player. Buying Ramirez, like buying just about any other player that's not a striker, doesn't make any sense.
