Here I was, just sitting around my house, wondering whether or not the rumors that Tottenham Hotspur were in for Hugo Lloris were ever true in the first place. Well, ESPN came to my rescue and answered my question before I ever asked it out loud.

The Worldwide Leader passed along a radio interview that Olympique Lyonnais chairman Jean-Michel Aulas gave with French radio station RMC. According to their translation, Tottenham did make a bid for Lloris, but that bid was rejected. Apparently, Lloris hasn't told Lyon that he absolutely wants to leave.

"Hugo wants to play in one of the best clubs in Europe. This year, there was an approach from Tottenham that was quickly rejected. If he absolutely wants to leave, we will look at the proposals - but they must be consistent with what we want. If not, he will stay."

Oh well. Ligue 1 is weaker than it was last season, outside of Paris Saint-Germain, and Lyon are pretty solid favorites for second place. I'm not sure why Lloris would want to leave unless one of Europe's giants -- none of which need a keeper -- came calling.
