This morning Sebastien Bassong completed his transfer from Tottenham Hotspur to Norwich City and rumors continue to fly that he could not be the only Spurs player on the move this week. The club seems to still be engaged in efforts to trim the fat from the squad and also raise money for the purchase of a striker.
Central midfield is an exceptionally deep position for Tottenham Hotspur and the Guardian seems to believe that as a result manager Andre Villas-Boas could be willing to let Tom Huddlestone go to Stoke City on loan. Huddlestone missed all of last season with an injury and while he played some in the pre-season it does not look like he's back at full-speed. A loan to a team where he can get consistent minutes may be good for him.
Another deep area, central defense, may also see a departure. From that same Guardian article, it appears that Queens Park Rangers are lining up a move for Michael Dawson. The move is for a rumored £5 million. This move would leave Tottenham with only four proven central defenders, 2 of which (William Gallas and Steven Caulker) who missed considerable time last year with injuries.
I don't really like either of these moves. I'm quite fond of both of these players, but if the manager doesn't feel like they fit into his plans for the club, then I suppose I have to deal with that. It would be a shame to lose both Ledley King and Dawson in the same summer, but that's professional sports for you.
