Stop me if you've heard this one before. According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur and Real Madrid have agreed to a fee for the transfer of Luka Modric, and he's set to be introduced as a Real Madrid player shortly. The closer we get to the transfer deadline, the more likely it is that these reports are true, but we've heard this story before. I think Modric will be sold to Madrid, but the Mail is the boy who cried wolf at this point. They've called this deal 'done' so many times, it's ridiculous.
Of course, if Tottenham do sell Modric, Daniel Levy is likely to have a busy week. Andre Villas-Boas has said that he's satisfied with the team and that he does not anticipate any transfer business at the deadline, but considering the team's first two results, the change in their tactics, the money that will come in for Modric and how late Levy likes to leave his transfer business, I don't believe that for a second.
If this deal finally gets done on Monday -- let's hope the Mail actually got this one right -- we're going to be absolutely bombarded with rumors over the next week. Spurs were already going to be the target of made-up crap and rumors created by agent leaks, but this is only going to intensify if/when the Modric deal is done.
It's going to be a wild week, you guys.
This deal has been 'close' for a while. He's been 'set to join Madrid' more than once. A recap.
Modric deal almost finalized | Modric listed as a player on Madrid's website | Modric to Real almost done ... again
