Curiosity abounded over what Tottenham Hotspur's next move would be, after seeing Luka Modric depart the club this morning to Real Madrid for a reported €37 million. Well, Chairman Daniel Levy has apparently wasted no time, as the executive is exploring transfers for at least three different players to supplement the Tottenham Hotspur attack.
First off is Shakhtar Donetsk forward Willian, who had a reported £12 million offer from Spurs rejected by his Ukranian club. The Ukranian champions apparently value the attacker at £20 million. The Brazilian has let it know that he is interested in leaving Shakhtar for Spurs, and ESPN has given a Tottenham source confirming the interest:
"We are going to replace Modric and the money is available. We are looking for a creative player, and Willian at Shakhtar is someone who interests the manager, Andre Villas-Boas."
Looking to supplement central midfield, Spurs have apparently also submitted another bid for Rennes' Yann M'Vila. The BBC state that Spurs submitted a bid of £12.7m with add-ons, but the French side are looking for an unconditional £15 million. The clubs do not seem far apart on a deal, with Rennes apparently suggesting face-to-face talks to finish the deal.
Goal.com has gotten in on the action as well, claiming that Tottenham are strongly pursuing Fulham midfielder Moussa Dembele. The reports lists Fulham reportedly putting a valuation on Dembele at approximately £12-15 million.
All of this news together definitely makes it seem that these last days of the transfer window will be active for Tottenham Hotspur, especially with the availability of the the new Modric money. It is interesting to see three very different players being pursued by Spurs.
M'Vila is the clearest fit into the midfield, slotting into one of Tottenham's two defensive midfield spots in the 4-2-3-1 system. Dembele is the most creative player listed, approximating some of what Luke Modric brought to the table. And Willian is the clearest source of goals, likely playing opposite Gareth Bale as AVB tries to install his system that has looked for scoring from wide attackers.
