Willian has emerged as a key player for Shakhtar Donetsk in recent years, and his performances in UEFA Champions League have put him onto the radar screen of Premier League clubs. Andre Villas-Boas pursued him last season while managing Chelsea, but couldn't get a deal done. This year, he's going after the versatile attacker again. Daniel Levy's on board, but he's probably not willing to come close to meeting Shakhtar's valuation.
Position: Winger/attacking midfielder
With Shakhtar since: August 2007
Claim to fame: Since Shakhtar started doing things like winning the UEFA Cup and getting into the knockout stages of Champions League, Willian's been in the spotlight more than most players who play in Ukraine. He's been very good the last couple of seasons, and he's even represented Brazil twice. His versatility is probably his best asset.
Likelihood he's purchased: If you believe the current reports, not good. Shakhtar are well off financially and do not have to sell players. Daniel Levy's initial offer was probably well off their valuation. I think that Andre Villas-Boas is pushing hard for this signing, however, and rumors should persist throughout the day.
What's his role if purchased?: He'll become a starter on the wing quickly. Whether that's the left wing or the right wing is anyone's guess. He plays primarily on the left wing for Shakhtar, which is obviously Gareth Bale's current position.
If we buy him, we probably pay: £17m.
