So, the Daily Mail (I know, I know, LOL) has, along with every other newspaper in England, figured out that we kind of need a striker. The lastest rumor has Spurs considering a swoop for Lyon forward Bafétimbi Gomis.
On the surface, this doesn't seem like such a bad thing. Spurs do, in fact, need a striker. Badly. Gomis is playing well for the Ligue 1 co-leaders, scoring 15 goals in 24 appearances in all competitions. He also has 18 months left on his Lyon contract, so a move to England isn't out of the question. He's a good finisher, and he's also very good at holding up the ball, so he could slot into a one-striker formation like 4-2-3-1 without much difficulty.
He's also been linked to Liverpool and Chelsea, but it seems unlikely that either would move for him at this time. A move to Spurs would also reunite Gomis with his former Lyon teammate, Hugo Lloris. The article quotes a price that could be "as low as £8m"
However, this is the Mail we're talking about here, and the article not only contains no quotes, but includes phrases like "Reports from France have suggested..." and "Whether Lyon would be prepared to sell Gomis this month remains to be seen..." Expect lots of these kinds of #batcountry reports today and tomorrow. Ain't deadline day fun?
