Heurelho Gomes leaves Spurs for Hoffenheim loan

Spurs temporarily bid farewell to their once starting, now third choice goalkeeper.

Heurelho Gomes will no longer occupy a seat on the bench at White Hart Lane. The goalkeeper has been sent to Hoffenheim on loan, giving him an opportunity to revive is nearly dead career.

Gomes' loan will be for the rest of the season. Spurs were forced to agree to the loan after they failed to sell him, with all bids for the Brazilian coming in below Daniel Levy's likely absurd valuation of the goalkeeper.

Remember, there was once a time when Gomes was brilliant for Spurs. He made a series of sensational stops in the 2009-2010 season to help Tottenham qualify for the Champions League. That season included a terrific save against Manchester City that kept the match level and allowed Peter Crouch to score the memorable winner.

But for every jaw dropping stop Gomes made, he had an unimaginable howler. For whatever reason, Gomes seemed incapable of averting disaster, which forces Spurs to buy Brad Friedel. Later, they bought Hugo Lloris and Gomes was as good as buried at Tottenham.

Gomes will get a chance to get his career back on track in Germany now. We wish him well, and a permanent transfer in six months time.
