You might have noticed some subtle changes to the site recently. We rolled out some changes to all SB Nation sites on Wednesday, and our layout looks a bit different than usual this afternoon. Between the changes made to the right rail and the smaller pictures at the top of the layout, we're somewhere between the initial redesign of the site and how things functioned pre-redesign.
One of the biggest changes -- one that a lot of bloggers pushed for -- was for FanPosts and FanShots to be pushed up the page and on the same side as all other sidebar content to make them easy to locate for everyone. I definitely want to take this opportunity to re-emphasize this aspect of the site, because I feel it's become a less active part of the site since the redesign, which I hope you guys feel compelled to change.
We all enjoy writing here, but the site's more about the community than it is about us. We now have the ability to add a picture from the library of pictures the authors are legally allowed to use to a FanPost, which gives us the ability to post FanPosts among the top stories. If we see good ones, we're going to make an effort to promote them to the front page.
You can find the FanPosts right here. In the top-right corner, you'll see an icon that says "New FanPost" if you're a member of the site, and that will take you to the editor where you can write your own post that will appear in the FanPosts section. Exceptional ones will get promoted to the front page, as well as promotion on our Twitter and Facebook pages. People who do good work here consistently might even become authors on the site eventually -- it's how we got everyone but Ryan and Brian writing for the site in the first place.
If you ever want some assistance or advice regarding a FanPost, I'd love to help. Feel free to hit me up via email at kevin.mccauley [at] sbnation [dot] com anytime. We hope you like the subtle changes to the site, and happy posting!
