QPR Reportedly Targeting Gallas Transfer

As Harry Redknapp seeks to bolster his roster to avoid relegation, could he target one of his former defenders?

As more news comes in of players who could to Tottenham Hotspur, an interesting report has come out on one who might leave. Reports have linked Harry Redknapp and QPR with a transfer of Tottenham Hotspur defender William Gallas. A centerback hole has been opened up as former Spurs defender Ryan Nelsen has chosen to leave QPR to become the manager of Toronto FC.

Gallas, 35, has been at Tottenham Hotspur since 2010. His contract expires at the end of the 2012-13 season. Gallas has started 16 games across all competitions so far this season, filling in for the injured Younes Kaboul. Although a valuable contributor, reports seem to make it that Gallas is unlikely to get a new contract from Tottenham Hotspur. Therefore, a move to QPR could represent Spurs' last opportunity to cash in on the French defender.

Gallas' departure would obviously lessen Tottenham's defensive depth. It could seem likely that Michael Dawson inherits much of Gallas's minutes. Steven Caulker, who has seen his minutes fall, could also be a major beneficiary of the added minutes. But if Younes Kaboul continues to struggle to come to health, Gallas' departure could be a major hit to Tottenham's defensive depth.
