For the second time in 2013, a Tottenham player has been handed the Barclays Premier League Player of the Month award, with Super Jan Vertonghen having been voted the winner after nearly rescuing Spurs' miserable afternoon at Anfield with two goals against Liverpool and digging out the goal and assist that determined the team's win over Swansea.

I highly doubt any Spurs fans or external commentators would argue that the award is anything less than fully deserved, with Jan having displayed composure, class and leadership at both ends of the pitch to help prop up Tottenham's limping-but-still-alive top four push. The extent to which Vertonghen deserves to demonstrate these skills at the most elite level of European football merely serves to underscore how important it is that we finish off the job in the weeks to come.
Congrats to Jan!
