Underneath this fragile frame
Lives a battle between pride and shame
But I've misplaced that sense of pride
This crown of thorns is perched atop my spine
But listen closely as I testify
Dependency has been a thief at night
Thief at night, thief at night
-Macklemore and Ryan Lewis feat. Allen Stone - Neon Cathedral
I put on this song every time I read a transfer rumor about Leandro Damiao. I don't mean to make light of alcoholism. I think this blog is actually responsible, directly or indirectly, for a lot of my alcohol consumption. Most of the worst posts or comment threads on this site are about Leandro Damiao. Most of my worst feelings about Tottenham Hotspur as an entity have to do with the Damiao saga and Daniel Levy's inability to sign a great center forward.
Here's an article from ESPN with the headline 'Damiao move to Spurs likely'. Inevitably, we'll hear that Levy has made a new bid. Then we'll hear that the deal's off. Then we'll hear that it's back on. Then we'll hear that a bid was accepted but the parties are haggling about wages. Then we'll hear that Spurs never actually had a bid accepted. Then a Bundesliga side will buy him for £10m and Bulleit's profit margins will go through the roof.
Here's the quotes from Inter's president that ESPN has in the above article.
"If a club want a player, they must talk to the president of the club at which that particular player plays, and not just deal with the agent - that is not correct behaviour," Luigi told Tutto Mercato.
"Recently we talked with Tottenham, Leandro is very likely to play games in England in the coming year. On the other hand we can exclude Napoli."
I hope you enjoy a long summer's worth of this bullshit.
