Tottenham Hotspur have been linked extensively to young Brazilian attacker Bernard this summer, but that link is looking a bit weaker at the moment. SambaFoot translated a Portuguese interview from Desporto into English, and it included this quote from Andre Villas-Boas about Bernard:
"Bernard's a player that we monitor like many others, but I think Tottenham will do nothing regarding them."
Sorry, those of you who were hoping for Bernard. So much for all of the internet reports that had it as a nearly done deal.
An important caveat: While Andre Villas-Boas has input regarding transfers, he's not Arsene Wenger, Jose Mourinho, David Moyes at Everton, etc. He's more head coach than anything and, by all accounts, doesn't really have say on these matters. The team could come to an agreement with Atletico Mineiro for Bernard after the Libertadores, tell AVB after it's mostly done, and he'd respond "Oh, coo."
