Having already been denied the chance to sign prospect Tin Jedvaj earlier on in the window after a double-deal for the Croatian and team-mate Alen Halilovic fell through, Tottenham have clearly not made a full withdrawal from the market for young centre-back options; next up on the list, according to reports passed on by Sportsmole and Here Is The City amongst others, is 23 year-old FC Steaua stopper Vlad Chiriches.
The price which is being widely quoted for the Romanian international is €7m- in my view a bargain as, from what I've seen of him so far, Chiriches is a classy ballplaying prospect who could deputize capably in that same attacking, constantly involved role as Jan Vertonghen. The only problem, as numerous other sources have indicated, is that he's also caught the eye of AC Milan, who are still looking to add to the depth of their back line after missing out on Angelo Ogbonna to rivals Juventus. I guess the tiny matter of where he'd fit in a roster that already includes Vertonghen himself, Michael Dawson, Younes Kaboul and Steven Caulker also bears consideration too.
In any case, however, it's nice to know that working through the twinned Soldado and Bale sagas seemingly hasn't prevented Spurs from casting their gaze at more talent lurking elsewhere. I'd love to see the club pull a few moves for a few under-the-radar talents before the window closes and, at the fee quoted, Chiriches really doesn't look like he'd be a bad place to start.
