After failing on their first attempt, it now looks as though Tottenham Hotspur will finally be able to complete the signing of Vlad Chirches from Steaua Bucharest after Steaua president Gigi Becali has given permission for the Romanian defender to make his move to England. Pro Sport has reported that, despite a recent leg injury, Chiriches is free to join Tottenham.
Pro Sport's report mostly covers Chiriches hip injury, which has kept him out of Steaua's most recent matches, but its not viewed as something that will keep him out long term. In fact, Chiriches could be available for Steaua this weekend. Tottenham Hotspur have agreed to pay Steaua's €8 million asking price in two installments, with the last one coming this winter. The deal is expected to be finalized after next week's return leg of Champions League qualifiers.
Chirches is certainly needed at White Hart Lane following the departure of Steven Caulker. Another classy ball-playing defender is exactly what Spurs need for Andre Villas-Boas' system and Chiriches is just that. Hopefully there are no more hang-ups and the deal gets completed by the end of next week.
