Potential Tottenham Hotspur departures: Tom Carroll

At some point this season, Tom Carroll will probably go out on loan. No one knows when or where.

This post is part of a deadline morning series on potential Tottenham transfers. You can find all of the posts in the series right here, as well as the initial post explaining this series right here.

The future is bright for Tom Carroll, one of the most creative and technically gifted English youngsters we've seen in quite some time. His confidence, vision and decision-making on the ball are absolutely incredible for someone who's only played 49 games of senior football in his career, and even if he doesn't fulfill his potential, there's no question that he'll be a solid Premier League player.

Unfortunately for Carroll, he's stuck behind a pretty loaded midfield at Tottenham at the moment. He's also tinier than the 5'8" he's listed at and really skinny. He needs game time somewhere, and I trust Andre Villas-Boas, Tim Sherwood and Co. to decide what's best for his game at the moment.

Ian Holloway is interested in taking him, while Spurs seem to want to send him to Ajax. Both options aren't looking great at the moment, with Palace talking to Barry Bannan and Ajax having signed Lerin Duarte. Will Carroll find a place where he can finally make the step up and become the player we all know he can be?

Quick bio: Tom Carroll is a young creative central midfielder that joined Tottenham Hotspur when he was 16. He's had a couple of loan spells, quite a few nice first team appearances and some England U21 work, but he's not quite ready for a regular first team place at Spurs. We ranked him as our No. 1 prospect this summer.

Age: 21

Likelihood he'll play if he stays: Not great

Potential suitors: Ajax, Crystal Palace, the entire Championship

Price if he's sold: He won't be sold.

Loan or sale?: Loan, Andre Villas-Boas has been clear about him having a future at Spurs.

The verdict - Will he be an active Spurs player on September 3?: Decent, but that's just because the loan deadline is later than the transfer deadline. There's a good chance that Carroll could be sent somewhere on loan a few days after the deadline. I assume that he will be on loan somewhere by the end of the month.
