Tom Carroll is being linked with a loan to Queens Park Rangers, which makes sense. In what the rags are calling an audacious double swoop by Harry Redknapp, they're also interested in a loan for Tottenham Hotspur left back Benoit Assou-Ekotto, which makes a whole heck of a lot less sense.
This comes from our friends at BT Sport, and there are a couple of pretty funny bits in here.
QPR have launched a bid to sign Tottenham's Tom Carroll and Benoit Assou-Ekotto on loan, Press Association Sport understands. Left-back Assou-Ekotto is out of favour at Tottenham and is yet to feature in any of the club's games so far this season ... Redknapp has also been linked with a move for Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor, but it is understood that the west London club have not made a bid for the Togo striker due to his huge wages.
Basically, what you're telling us is that Redknapp is interested in any decent player who used to play for him at Spurs that might be out of favor at Spurs, regardless of how realistic his signing is. Got it.
The presence of that last bit, with the indication of Harry's interest in Adebayor, should tell you a bit about the nature of this Benny rumor. Either the press is just spitballing or Harry is.
Assou-Ekotto is in the final year of his contract, so a loan is utterly pointless. If we want to let him go on loan to QPR, we might as well just be done with it and let him walk on a free trainsfer.
