Writers Prediction League: Tottenham vs. Crystal Palace

The writers at Cartilage Free Captain predict the result for Tottenham Hotspur's match vs. Crystal Palace.

Paul Gilham

Broken. The last ten days saw highs and lows for Tottenham Hotspur. It began with a shocking 2-1 upset victory for Spurs at Old Trafford over Manchester United, launching the team into 6th place, just two points from Champions League positioning. But three days later the momentum was broken, losing 2-0 to Arsenal in an insipid FA Cup performance. So which game shows the real Spurs--the victory over United or loss to the Gunners?

This answer will be found against today's opponent, a visit from Crystal Palace in a London Derby. Palace is off to a rough start this year, sitting in 18th place after last season's shock promotion. The Eagles main problem has been their goal production, tallying just 13 league goals so far, lowest in the Premiership. When they do score goals they're scored by Marouane Chamakh and Dwight Gayle, who have seven goals combined. However, Palace has proven a tough team to score on of late, as Adrian Mariappa, Danny Gabbidon, and Julian Speroni have made things tough for opposing attackers

As for the Prediction League, Petrili dropped a perfect prediction and along with Sleep and Ed's correct predictions, creating a tough second place tie. The rules remain the same in the Prediction League--one point for a correct prediction and a bonus point for getting the score correct. Here are the current standings:

Name Score
Mechanick 16
The Sleeper's Sleep 14

This week's predictions:

Ed: 3-1 Spurs.

Kevin: Who the shit are we playing? 1-0 Spurs I guess. 35-yard blinder from Soldado.

Mechanick: I ain't afraid of no Chamakhs. 1-0 Spurs

Ryan: Is your muffin buttered? 2-1 Spurs.

Ashlock: I think we're tactically naive and still not prepared to break down teams that sit deep and defend. Palace aren't that good, but this game will be closer than anyone wants. 1-0 Spurs.

The Roosevelts: I like what Bryan said 1-0 Spurs

Lennon's Eyebrow: Tom Carroll scores a brace after his surprise recall. 2-0 Spurs.

Petrilli: 2-1 Spurs. In response to the FA Cup game Sherwood plays 6 midfielders.

Uncle Menno: Crystal Palace sounds like one of those conservative TV mega churches. I'm Amish, so phooey on them. 3-0 Spurs.

MCofA:My score prediction algorithm is useless for this one, given the huge change in tactics on both sides. I'm going 3-1 Spurs.

The Sleeper's Sleep: On the week Jermain Defoe's transfer to Toronto nears completion, it is appropriate that we are playing the Rob Ford of BPL teams. 2-0 Spurs.

Skipjack: 2-0 Spurs. Ruck Fules.
