According to Gazetta Dello Sport, Tottenham Hotspur are indeed interested in Fredy Guarin as previously rumored, but their likely bid will be too low for Inter Milan's liking.
With the help of our Serie A team at SB Nation, I was able to translate the relevant part of Gazetta's story into something that makes sense, because the Google Translate machine spits out an ambiguous mess.
Inter offered Guarin for Lamela - that was rejected. Now that Tottenham are about to sell Capoue, they want to buy Guarin for €10m, but Inter consider that price low. It's here that Inter needs to get some money, from him or Ranocchia.
Basically, Inter needs to sell to buy. Their new owner has money, but Inter has spent outside their means for a long time and he'd like to get finances under control. Guarin wants out and he doesn't appear to have a lot of wealthy suitors, though the Gazetta story mentions that Galatasaray is interested. Inter's just playing hardball, knowing that if Spurs really want Guarin, they'll pay more than £8.2m.
Also, lol at the idea of a Guarin-Lamela exchange. Get real. Maybe for an 18-month loan, and even that sounds stupid.
