Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen sparked transfer speculation after tweeting "Touchdown Florence!!"
Fiorentina are looking for a new defender to reinforce their squad over the January transfer window, having already snapped up Alessandro Matri from Milan and Manchester United midfielder Anderson.
Belgian international Vertonghen tweeted he had just arrived in Florence this evening, though it's not clear why he is in the city.
It's possible he is merely on vacation, but he has been linked with a move to Napoli as well.
Okay, now that we have the panic out of the way, this is probably nothing to be worried about. If Vertonghen was actually negotiating a move away from Spurs to a Serie A club, I doubt he'd be so open about it on social media. Additionally, Napoli and Fiorentina are not currently in Champions League and don't have a history of paying significantly higher wages than Spurs do. Oh, and he's been linked to Barcelona, who still need a central defender (or three). If he wants to bounce, he's got better options.
In case you've forgotten, here's a reminder: Tottenham Hotspur do not play this weekend. I'm sure that all of the players have a couple of days off from training and are free to do whatever they like. Verts chose to go to Florence, because why not? Florence is a cool city.
But if he's actually negotiating a transfer with Fiorentina or Napoli then I quit life.
