Spurs announce permanent transfer of Adam Smith to Bournemouth

Transfer news! Not of the particularly happy kind, though, as Spurs announce that 22 year-old full back Adam Smith is now a Bournemouth AFC player.

No word on a fee as yet, but my gut instinct would lead me to guess that it's going to come out under seven-figures. I imagine however that Smith probably still fetched a good sum for an Academy product.

To tell you the truth, I'm not especially surprised that Tottenham have decided to call time on Smith's time with the club. Making his first team debut in 2012 off the back of strong spells with MK Dons and Leeds, and in light of some strong performances with the England U21s, many of us had hoped that last season would be a 'finishing school' year for the intelligent defender before he became an integrated first team player.

However, Smith's career hit the skids a little with an inauspicious loan to Millwall last term, and when he was sent back to the Championship with Derby at the start of this season, only to be recalled after not contributing as much as had been hoped no less, it seemed increasingly obvious that he was never going to quite make it. Nonetheless, we wish him all the best in his new start with a club going from strength to strength under Eddie Howe, and as with all departed youngsters hope to see him proving us wrong by lining up against us in the Premiership some day.
