The Guardian is reporting that Tottenham Hotspur will appeal Danny Rose's sending off for his tackle of Edin Dzeko in yesterday's match against Manchester City. Initally, referee Andre Marriner signalled for a corner kick, but assistant referee Scott Ledger flagged for a foul and, probably, had input on the subsequent dismissal.
After the match, Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood sided with Marriner's initial opinion of the incident.
"I think Andre got it right in the first place when he called it as a corner. Unfortunately for us, the linesman decided that Andre got it wrong and he's given a penalty there. I think Danny's making a last-ditch tackle so he's having to lunge in there a bit. He clearly wins the ball – I think we will appeal."
It's pretty clear that Rose contacted Dzeko, even though he won the ball. I have a hard time seeing Spurs winning this appeal, but losing Rose for two more matches to suspension, with so many big and important matches coming up, isn't ideal for the team. So appealing on the off chance that he can avoid the suspension might be worth it.
