Jake Livermore maybe not being recalled from loan

Recalled or not recalled, that is the question.

Chris Brunskill

Yesterday, it looked like Tottenham Hotspur had recalled Jake Livermore from his loan at Hull City, but maybe not. The Hull Daily Mail are now reporting that the Tigers have not received a written request from Spurs to recall Livermore, which is required at least 24 hours in advance per the terms of the loan.

Assuming the Hull Daily Mail are correct, and there is no reason to believe they are any more or less reliable than the outlets reporting he had been recalled yesterday, Spurs are making Etienne Capoue available to other clubs without a real replacement. When Tim Sherwood says he is happy with his squad and doesn't need any reinforcements -- or defensive midfielders, for that matter -- he really means it.

Livermore has been good for Hull and would give Spurs a more defensively capable midfielder, even if he is a typical box-to-box player and hardly a holder. He is more adept in his own half than Nabil Bentaleb at this point, but Sherwood rates the youngster and is willing to work through the growing pains so maybe he doesn't see Livermore as necessary. That's a risky play to make with fourth place and the Champions League in the balance, but if Sherwood has proven to be anything, it is a gambler.

Or maybe the Hull Daily Mail is full of it. Deadline day!
