Potential Tottenham Hotspur departures: Etienne Capoue

Could the Frenchman leave just five months after his purchase?

This post is part of a deadline morning series on potential Tottenham transfers. You can find all of the posts in the series right here, as well as the initial post explaining this series right here.

At the beginning of his Tottenham Hotspur career, Etienne Capoue looked like he was going to be an excellent signing for the club. He was thrown into the fire quickly because of an injury to Sandro and he looked like a perfect fit as the more defensive of two midfielders in Andre Villas-Boas' double pivot.

Then he got hurt. Then he had to fill in at center back. Then AVB got fired. Now, the new manager seems to be pretty intent on getting rid of him. Napoli have made multiple bids, but Spurs want to make a profit on him. A deal seems likely, but will one of Franco Baldini or Riccardo Bigon budge?

Quick bio: Etienne Capoue is a defensive midfielder who signed for Tottenham Hotspur in the summer. He was impressive at Toulouse in Ligue 1 for years and got off to a good start with Spurs, but he's struggled recently. Between an injury and a change in management, he's found himself out of favor. He played 45 minutes on Wednesday, but all indications are that Tim Sherwood doesn't rate him.

Age: 25

Likelihood he'll play if he stays: Meh

Potential suitors: Napoli, Atletico Madrid

Price if he's sold: Around £11m

Loan or sale?: Sale. No loan rumors have been floated

The verdict - Will he be an active Spurs player on September 3?: Not impossible. I'd put the odds at about 60/40 that he departs.
