At a certain point, a player is no longer a promising prospect. At the age of 23, Jon Obika is probably at that point, but he needs to play some competitive football if Tottenham Hotspur are going to have any luck getting rid of him. Thus, Obika will join Championship club Brighton and Hove Albion on a three-month loan.
Obika has made four total first team appearances in his time at Tottenham, with the most recent coming in last year's FA Cup. The striker then spent the second half of that season on loan with Championship side Charlton Athletic. Obika has had a number of other loans in his career, many of which were to Yeovil Town.
As I said above, Obika isn't much of a prospect anymore and he's never really showed any great aptitude for putting the ball in the back of the net, so his chances at Spurs were always going to be limited. He, like the recently departed Simon Dawkins, just needs an opportunity to showcase his talents in hopes of securing a suitable permanent move in the future.
Good luck Jon!
