Milos Veljkovic is going to be a defender at Middlesbrough. And a midfielder.
There were questions about where Boro would play the 19-year-old Spurs loanee. He has played both central defense and defensive midfield for the Tottenham youth teams, as well as for the Serbia youth teams, but Boro don't appear to have one position in mind for him. They got him in part because he can play both positions.
"When you have the quality that Milos has, you can play as either a defender or in central midfield," Boro manager Aito Karanka told the Northern Echo. "I will use him in the position where we need him most."
"I spoke with him before he came here and told him that I am going to use him in both positions."
This is probably the best possible outcome for Veljkovic. Spurs haven't decided where they think he is best so keeping the options open is good and it gives the 19-year-old more places to force himself into the MIddlesbrough team. He needs to get matches and he will be a candidate in midfield and defense so he has more chances to do so.
Overall, Spurs have to be thrilled with the way this loan looks. One of their best prospects will be playing in the Championship and at just 19 years old, while giving himself as many as chances as possible to play and refining his game in multiple spots.
