Spurs could be interested in Finnish defender Niklas Moisander

This could be a thing, but only if we're cutting one of our defenders loose.

More transfer news in October! talkSPORT is suggesting that Spurs might be interested in making a bid for Ajax defender and Finnish international Niklas Moisander when the January transfer window opens. The report, predictably, doesn't have any quotes or sources, so it's all a bit #batcountry and you shouldn't get too excited.

I can't say I know much about Moisander or have watched him play but sources close to the blog (i.e. Kevin) report that he's a decent enough defender and probably not an idiot. Moisander is 29, in the last year of his contract, and might be available for around £5m. He was also the player signed to replace Vertonghen when he came to Spurs, so that could be the genesis of this rumor.

If Spurs really are interested in him, though, it probably means that we're looking for a cheap insurance policy in central defense. The club already has five CBs – Vertonghen, Younes Kaboul, Federico Fazio, Vlad Chiriches, and Eric Dier – so a sixth seems like overkill, especially once Kyle Walker and Kyle Naughton get healthy again. However, if Spurs cut their losses on Vlad or if Barcelona comes in big for Jan this January, it's not a horrible move.

Moisander is probably not a lock-down starter for Tottenham, but he'd be perfectly adequate cover in the event that we lose a CB for whatever reason. He's probably one of a few guys Spurs are looking for this very contingency. Isn't the transfer window fun?
