League Cup team news: Naughton and Fazio back, Bentaleb and Walker out

Good news, everybody!

Ian Walton

Excellent news coming out of Tottenham Hotspur this morning! Right back Kyle Naughton, who has been nursing an ankle injury that he picked up in the match against Southampton, will be back in the match squad for this evening's League Cup tie against Brighton and Hove Albion.

Ankle injuries are tricky things that are difficult to heal, and I would be very surprised if Naughton starts this match. The fact that he's in the squad is a very positive sign, however, and hopefully he can get some late game minutes to get back into match fitness. Spurs need Naughton back desperately – in the absence of Kyle Walker he has played well at right back, and as we all know Eric Dier is only an emergency stop-gap measure. Get healthy soon, Kyle2!

In other team news, Federico Fazio will be back in the side, and probably the starting lineup, after serving his one-match ban for picking up a red card at Manchester City.  Nabil Bentaleb and Kyle Walker are still injured, though the Mirror claims today that Kyle Walker is expected to return to full training with this week. This means, clearly, that he's "back in the frame" for England again.

We already know from earlier comments that Harry Kane is set to play tonight against Brighton. Michel Vorm will also probably start this match in goal. We'll see what other kinds of tactical surprises Mauricio Pochettino brings to the table. A win means Spurs are in the quarterfinals of the League Cup and are three wins away from silverware.
