Team news is out ahead of tomorrow's Europa League group stage clash between Tottenham Hotspur and Besiktas, and the answer to our previous question about Mauricio Pochettino's squad selection has been settled. Rotation it is!
Seven players have been left out of the squad that's on its way to Istanbul. Harry Kane, Jan Vertonghen, Nabil Bentaleb, Ryan Mason, Christian Eriksen, and Kyle Naughton are all being rested for this weekend's match at Swansea. Emmanuel Adebayor is on a personal leave and has returned to Togo.
The full squad that made the trip to Turkey hasn't been released, but we DO have access to training photos taken today! In fact, just take a look at the feature photo for a second. The easily identifiable players are Roberto Soldado, Paulinho, Federico Fazio, Vlad Chiriches, Mousa Dembele, Andros Townsend, Benjamin Stambouli, Younes Kaboul, Etienne Capoue, Aaron Lennon, Kyle Walker, and Joshua Onomah. Further sleuthing suggests the scruffy dude next to Kaboul could be Dominic Ball. Other training photos (not shown here) show Erik Lamela, Harry Winks, and Nacer Chadli. That, minus (presumably) Hugo Lloris and Michel Vorm, is pretty much your match squad.
Based on the rested players, it's likely that we'll see Soldado starting up top for Spurs. Walker is back in the squad, and all indications are he'll start at right back tomorrow. Resting Bentaleb and Mason implies a center midfield pairing that will likely include Stambouli and/or Dembele. FedericoFazio returns from his Europa suspension and may also feature, possibly alongside Kaboul in central defense. After that? Who knows!
As for Besiktas, Demba Ba is out with a broken toe, and manager Slaven Bilic indicated that his squad has injury and fatigue issues, but didn't specify which players would not feature.
